How Do I Know If I’m Ready for a Coach?

Sometimes, the hardest part of change isn’t the work itself — it’s the decision to begin.

If you’ve found yourself circling the idea of coaching, dipping a toe in and pulling it back out again, you’re not alone. The question I hear most often (whispered between the lines) is:

"Am I actually ready for this?"

Let’s explore that, gently.

First, What Does “Ready” Really Mean?

Many people assume that coaching is for those who’ve hit a wall, or those who have everything figured out and just want to fine-tune the edges.

In truth, it’s for neither... and both.

You don’t need to be broken.

You don’t need to be brilliant.

You simply need to be willing; to explore, to reflect, and to take responsibility for the part of your life that’s calling for change.

That’s it. That’s the readiness.

Are You Ready for Coaching If…

Here are a few signs you may be more ready than you think:

  • You’re feeling stuck, frustrated or quietly restless; even if everything "looks fine" on the outside.
  • You’re facing a transition and want clarity before making a big decision.
  • You know what you don’t want… but the "what’s next?" still feels murky.
  • You’ve tried doing it all on your own and realise you’re circling the same patterns.
  • You’re willing to explore your own mindset, habits and beliefs; even the messy ones.
  • You feel a nudge (or maybe a shove) from within saying, "It’s time."

Coaching is Not a Last Resort; It’s a Conscious Choice

Coaching isn’t remedial. You don’t go to a coach because something’s "wrong" with you.
You go because you’re ready to go from good… to more intentional. From stuck… to in motion.

The most successful athletes, leaders, and creatives work with coaches; not because they’re lost, but because they know they can’t see all their own blind spots. They value having someone in their corner who’s wholly committed to their growth.

Coaching is for the brave. Not the perfect.

One Powerful Question

If you’re still unsure, ask yourself this:

What if you could make possibility (not pain) your catalyst for change?

Not waiting for a crisis. Not needing to hit rock bottom.

But choosing to invest in your own clarity, confidence and direction now; before life forces your hand.

Final Thought

Readiness doesn’t come wrapped in certainty. It often shows up disguised as restlessness, or quiet discomfort, or a sense that something is shifting beneath the surface.

You don’t need to know exactly where you’re going.
You just need to be willing to start walking.

P.S. If you’d like to talk through whether you’re ready for coaching (or simply ready for something to change) I offer a free exploratory session. There’s no script, no pressure. Just a safe, spacious conversation to help you meet yourself where you are.
